Hello all,

Well the swallow test was a bust. Nicholas was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday, and he had several stops at Children's before his swallow test. We left the house at 11:15am and returned around 2am the next morning.

Nicholas decided to throw a fit while having his new trach put in, and then proceeded to have the same fit while in the x-ray room and swallow study room.

Sadly, Nicholas failed his swallow study; his mouth is just not ready to eat. He couldn't accomplish the suck, swallow, and breath mechanics at the same time. He would swallow just a smidge and then desaturate. He had barium coming out his mouth, face, and nose. The next study won't be scheduled for a least 6-9 months. Yep, that long. We are going to have the mickey button for a while.

Nicholas, after throwing a fit in the x-ray room, was carted over to the ER because they could not get his oxygen down from the procedure. We spent the rest of the night in the ER trying to relax and calm him down. We were released around 1am. It just takes a long time to get home and put him to bed.

Please continue to pray for Nicholas. He has had a rough few days. Not to mention his parents.

Much love
Alex, Terah, and Nicholas
