Hello all ! Nicholas is doing really well. He is up to 6 hours per day of CPAP, and by the end of the week, he will be on 8 hours during the day. We have our monthly visit with Dr. Schochet on Thursday to receiver our RSV vaccine and check-up. Alex is home this week, so it will be nice to share some of my duties with Nicholas with Alex. Nicholas will enjoy having Dad home, too. Alex is home on the weekends when he travels during the week, and for the most part, he and Nicholas are content at watching whatever sport event is on TV on Saturdays and Sundays. They both sit, side by side, in the recliner and play Nintendo Game Cube and watch the TV. Nicholas just sits and plays with his toys and his Dad. Alex, I hope, is watching Nicholas!!! I enjoy the weekends somewhat off...Alex calls me in when Nicholas spits up or needs suctioning. Nice, huh...only needed for the dirty stuff...but that is just being a mom right? Otherwise, I have been spending some time biking with my friend, husband and my friend's mountain bikes. I continue to go to aerobics and ride my exercycle, but somedays, Nicholas is very demanding. The speech therapist has been working on Nicholas sucking with the bottle, trying some formula with his paci, working with eatting with a spoon, doing face exercises, and eatting and licking lollipops. Why candy? It so happens that the Speech therapist encourages Nicholas to use his mouth and swallow by using a sweet/sour mixture. He, of course, does not have more than a few licks, but it encourages his mouth to make good juices and make him swallow more. We have been sticking to the sour apple pops and lemon swabs. The physical therapist has been working on crawling techniques to encourage Nicholas to push off with his arms and turn his head while on his tummy. He has the leg motion going good...can't keep his little bottom and legs from NOT moving. He is such a wiggler. He can wiggle himself to the bottom of his crib, to the side of the crib, and go from his sides to his back and sides to his tummy. He hasn't mastered flipping back from his tummy to his back. He still gets a bit stuck. Just a note to let you know how we are doing. There are some new pics. Alex, Terah, and Nicholas |
