Ok, here is the deal. Nicholas was admitted to Children's on Thursday...yep Thanksgiving. He had an infection, most likely pneumonia, and had trouble breathing. He had several large mucus plugs removed from his chest in the ER, but stablized quickly and was moved to the PICU. He was given antibiotics via IV, and today, he is feeling much better. His oxygen has come down quite a bit, but his leak is still a constant problem. His blood gases have been much better since the antibiotics, and his lungs have cleared. We are actually going to stay in the hospital a few more days to have his renal exam on Monday. We needed to have this procedure done anyway; therefore, there was an opening, so we are scheduled to have the renal dye test done Monday morning. This test will determine the extent of Nicholas's kidney issues. Remember the clots took out one of his kidneys during his early days in the NICU. According to the ultrasound, the last clot appears to be gone which means that we can stop the blood thinner shots at home. The renal scan on Monday should be able to determine that the clots are absolutely gone, etc... Alex and I felt that it was important to take care of this exam while in the hospital, so we would have a better understanding of his renal system. It is just unfortunate that we had to go to the hospital on Thanksgiving. The doctors are pleased with Nicholas's progress. He continues to grow and develop well. The nurses at the PICU can't stop pinching him and goo and coo over him. We always knew that he was a cute kido. Please continue to pray for Nicholas. Alex, Terah, and Nicholas |
