Nicholas is still doing fairly well at home. We have encountered several problems with his pulse/ox which measures his heart and oxygen saturations. The thing is absolutely nutty. It will register 98 or 99 saturation and then falls digit by digit to 70s and 60s. Nicholas remains calm and collected. His color remains nice and pink, so the doctor feels as though it is his equipment malfunctioning. Great huh? It beeps all day...it is a wonder that Nicky can sleep through the beeping. On the other hand, it makes his mother hear ringing and beeping in her sleep.

The poor doctor must think that we are looney. We keep calling him to make sure Nicky is ok. Of course he says that Nicky would be very upset if he was desaturating to the 80s, 70s, and below. I would rather be very careful. We don't want to go back to the hospital if it is not necessary.

Otherwise, Nicholas is really coming along with his development. He is holding his head up and moving around quite a bit while we support him along his backside. He loves to sit up in the bed with lots of pillows. Daddy is spoiling him because he puts him on a pillow and dances and bounces him all around. Nicholas just giggles and smiles. He is also more content with being held. He almost hates the bed...being on Daddy's pillow, his swing, and everyone else's lap is always more enjoyable. He is also clicking and smacking with his lips. He makes such cute sounds...despite having a trach.

He has also started this business of not facing the wall of his room. (this would be his right side) He can't stand being turned on his right side and face away from the action. He will do a complete turn to his back so that his head and eyes are fixed back out to the people in his room. It is quite funny to watch him whip around right after you have taken 15 minutes turning and comforting him on the right.

Please continue to pray for Nicky's lungs. We pray that he will be able to wein down the vent to oxygen soon.

Just sending those notes!

Much love,
Alex, Terah, and little Nicky
