Hi all! Nicholas survived his first trip to the doctor yesterday. Both the nurse and I lost sleep over the night before. I think that we kept playing over the steps we would take to get Nicholas from his room, down the stairs, and into the car for traveling. It took two nurses, mommy, and Grandpa Jenkins to get Nicholas secured in the car. Nicholas slept all the way to the doctors office. He kept turning around in his car seat looking for his mommy. He had to make sure that I was there with his at all times. Dr. Sherrod increased his feedings due to the fact that Nicholas is getting hungry 45 minutes before his supper time everyday. Unfortunately, we have to monitor every ounce of formula that goes into his little body. Nicholas has to void correctly because of his one kidney and his lungs. He cannot withstand over amounts of fluid due to the fact that he could retain excess in his lungs. Therefore, he is getting just a tad more formula with each feed. Dr. Sherrod said that he would increase 5cc more if he needed it next week. Otherwise, Nicholas is in good form. He does have a large leak in his trach tube. We shouldn't hear him crying and talking, but we do. His lung doctor is leary in putting in the next sized trach. However, he may have to make that decision within the next few days/week. I am not complaining about hearing my son cry and coo but it could be concerning in the future if all his air is rusing out of the trach. Enjoy the new pictures. Alex is traveling during the week and wanted to see new pictures of his baby everyday. Therefore, I have been a picture happy mommy. Thanks for the continued prayers and support. We have such a great network of helpers. Please continue to pray for Nicholas in these days. We are appealing to have additional nursing staff for at least three more weeks. I feel as though I need a few more weeks to train and practice. Nicholas is a tough baby. He has a very bad temper (which he got from me) and can turn blue and purple within seconds. I have to be ready to change out a trach, bag him, and call 911 all in one instance. Please pray for strength for Alex and I during this time. Alex, Terah, and Nicholas |
